Fitness and Sports games for the Wii Console have brought a whole new dimension to gaming. Here's our pick of the crop.

Fitness Games for the Wii

The Biggest Loser

The Biggest LoserThis game, created by THQ is based on the hit NBC show. Like the show, your goal is to reach weight loss milestones through weekly training and challenges. If you succeed in reaching your weight loss goal then you'll become the "Biggest Loser."

The Biggest Loser has been given some very good reviews by a lot of people. Amazon.com readers have given this game a 4 star rating.

"Wii technology, combined with The Biggest Loser comprehensive workout and diet programs, will help you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle and to feeling great about yourself. And you may even have fun along the way too." www.amazon.com

ign.com has given this game a very respectable 7.7 out of 10, which, considering that it was made on a smaller budget than the big name games such as Wii Fit and EA Sports Active is pretty impressive.

"While this game certainly has some flaws in its motion tracking and lacks the polish of some of the higher budget fitness games from bigger publishers, when it comes to finding a workout that can get your heart pumping, The Biggest Loser can compete." uk.wii.ign.com

My Fitness Coach

My Fitness Coachwww.amazon.co.uk

One amazon.com reader said that "My Fitness Coach is what Wii Fit should have been." Overall My Fitness Coach was given a 4 out of 5 stars by Amazon's readers.

Given a very decent 7.2 out of 10 by ign.com it ultimately comes down to the individual tastes of the games users whether this game is a useful weight loss tool or not.

"Fitness Coach allows for long, continuous workouts that will really test your mettle and get results (if you stick with it.) In the end, it's a solid exercise game that does its job and makes you sweat? profusely." uk.wii.ign.com

EA Sports Active: Personal Trainer

EA Sports Active Personal TrainerEA Sports Active: Personal Trainer is a great tool for losing weight if you use it regularly. Compatible with the Wii Fit board to further enhance gameplay EA Sports Active gives you a wide range of excercises to choose from including cardio, upper body and lower body.

When you start, the game asks you a few questions about yourself, such as name, age and height. You can very quickly get into the workouts which range from 20 minutes easy exercise to long hard workouts for those fitness fanatics amongst us who are already fit but just want to maintain that level of fitness.

The first workout starts you off with an easy jog to warm you up before moving onto tricep curls, lunges and the like. As you reach the end of the workout you move back into a warmdown with some easy boxing.

The game provides a very useful Journal page where it gives you the opportunity to view your medal status which shows you how close you are to getting a gold medal that day, view the achievements you've won, update your personal information, and one very interesting feature, the lifestyle and nutrition questionair, which asks you what you've been eating, how long you slept last night, how much you've been eating and more. Once you've completed this questionnaire, the game gives you a score based on the information you have given it, it then gives you either a bronze, silver or gold medal to reflect your score.

You have 3 customisable goals on the medal page, calories burnt, workouts completed and time spent on workouts. All of these goals can be modified by the player, so, if you have enough time on your hands you could decide to spend 10 hours in a week doing exercises, burn 5000 calories or do 30 workouts. Obviously if you don't feel up to doing that or you simply don't have enough time in a week (or month, or however long you set the time limit on your goals) you can set the goals to a much more attainable level.

Also on the Journal page is the most important part of all, the workout section.

Another of the fun little features in EA Sports Active is the ability to design your own workouts, so if you only feel like having a bit of fun playing tennis or rollerblading, or if you simply don't have enough time, you can play around to your hearts content.

The graphics in the game are good and the game is quite responsive if you are doing the exercise right, this game can definitely help you drop those excess pounds, the only problems with the game are the resistance band that comes with the game (I would definately recommend buying a better one, they're very cheap) and the personal trainers can be quite annoying in the demonstrations, but apart from that it is a great game all round.

I would give this game a good 8.5 out of 10.

Amazon.co.uk readers gave this game 4.3 out of 5, saying things like "I love this game!" and "Whoop! This game is everything I hoped for."

NewU: Fitness First Personal Trainer

NewU Fitness First Personal Trainer"NewU is the only interactive fitness product for Nintendo Wii that combines both Fitness and Nutrition and teaches users with REAL VIDEO not computer graphics." www.amazon.co.uk

The Nutrition feature helps you plan healthy meals, it even gives you a shopping list and step-by-step intructions on how to make them, it even caters for allergies, just tell the game what you're allergic to on the profile page and the game will do the rest.

Amazon readers gave this game 4 out of 5 stars.

This game gives an intense cardio workout through exercises and moves that were inspired by boxing, including skipping, hitting mitts/sandbag, squats and more. It also teaches you boxing through the shape boxing section.

Several levels of difficulty enable users of all abilities to use this game to the full. Cardio Workout is also compatible with the Wii Fit board.

One of Amazon's readers said, "I have to say I enjoyed using it - the feedback is helpful if you want to do the exercises correctly and you don't need to wory about leg straps like you do with EA Sports Active or hold the remote once you get started wtih a routine so the exercise flows more freely."

Amazon gave this game 4 stars out of 5. (There seems to be a bit of a theme here!)

EA Sports Active: More Workouts

EA Sports Active More Workoutswww.amazon.co.uk

There are, unfortunately no resistance bands or equipment included in this product. But it does allow you to import your profile from the original, and you can also weigh yourself on the Wii Fit board if you have one.

More Workouts was given 4.3 out of 5 stars by amazon readers.
